We talked about how to create your YouTube channel for your Amazon business in the previous blog post, now let’s move on to YouTube SEO and optimizing and ranking your videos. As mentioned in the previous post, it is important to include your main keywords in your video title, description, and tags for SEO purposes. Your video title should contain the main keyword(s) and be designed for both the search engines (YouTube and Google) and viewers. Keep in mind you only have 100 characters available for your title, shortened to 70 characters in the search results.

Pro Tip: Use keywords at the beginning of your title for a slight SEO boost. For instance, “Onyx Crystal Bracelet Review: What’s the benefit of wearing it?” Your video description helps YouTube and Google understand the context of your video. The better they understand your video, the higher you will rank and the more often your video will show up in the Suggested Video sidebar.

Here are 3 good practices when writing your description:

  1. Include your primary keyword in the first 25 words
  2. You only have 5000 characters to make it as informative as possible.
  3. Use your primary keyword 2–4 times without being “spammy”

Please do not spam your YouTube description with keywords thinking it will help with SEO when it is the opposite. Below is an example of a bad video description cluttered with keywords.

Here’s a good structure you want to aim for when writing your description. I will further explain 5 important factors that you should pay attention to for YouTube SEO best practices.

1. Primary Keywords

I’m going to assume that you have already done your keyword research for your Amazon ads and product listings here. You’d want to include those main keywords in your video filename, video title, video description, and in the backend keyword tags.

Pro Tip: To determine keywords that work for you, Zonguru has a tool can help you track your product ranks with respect to various keywords you are trying to rank for. Your YouTube title, description, and video tags need to contain your primary keywords to rank your videos faster for popular keywords. When the video someone is watching has a similar tag to your video, it is added to the sidebar!

Pro Tip: You can leverage on popular videos by using their video tags. Here are 2 ways to find these tags. The first way is to find these tags within the video’s page source. Simply right-click on the video page and click on the “View Page Source” button as shown in the image below.

A new tab with a whole bunch of codes will show up so you will need to hit “Ctrl+F” and type in “keywords” to find these keyword tags as shown in the image below,

The second and much easier way is to use a Chrome extension called vidIQ. Once you have installed it, all you need to do is click on the video and you will be able to view tags used for the video.

2. YouTube Links

The second important factor is to include your Youtube video links in the product description. Here are 3 main links you would want to include,

  • Youtube Video (The one which you are writing this copy for): [Insert link]

Pro Tip: Use https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORU7S6s33t4 instead of the shorter version https://youtu.be/ORU7S6s33t4 to avoid link redirection. Don’t worry about the aesthetic appeal as YouTube will automatically hide links that are too long.

  • Youtube Channel: [Insert link]
  • Youtube Playlist (Playlist which the video is being added to): [Insert link]

Another set of YouTube links you would want to include are links to competitors or links to relevant videos with high views. YouTube’s algorithm likes it when you reference other helpful videos so viewers will continue to watch other videos keeping them in the YouTube ecosystem. Similar to Amazon, YouTube is trying to keep viewers within the ecosystem and if you are helping YouTube do so, rest assured you will be rewarded. Here’s a template you can use for adding competitors or other relevant videos: Other Helpful Videos About [Insert Topic]:

  • Video title 1: [Insert link 1]
  • Video title 2: [Insert link 2]
  • Video title 3: [Insert link 3]

3. YouTube Playlist

The next step is to create YouTube playlists and organize your videos accordingly so viewers benefit from your list of related videos and can save it to “Watch Later”. For instance, you can have a playlist for “How-To’s” for your products, another playlist for upcoming products, and also a playlist for product reviews. Playlists are also great to get more views on your videos. After all, playlists automatically play every video in the playlist which will lead to more exposure for your channel.

4. Social Media Channels

You need to include a list of your social media channels where customers can learn more about your business, products, and the latest and greatest that you are offering.

5. Advance Settings

  • Categories — Select a category that best describes your video.
  • Video Location — Include the country where your Amazon business is located. For instance, if you are selling in Amazon UK then I highly recommend having the location as United Kingdom for better search results.
  • Video Language — Select the language that you are using in your video.
  • Recording Date — Insert the video recording date.

Final Thoughts

We discussed the 5 factors for great YouTube SEO and creating videos that maximize audience retention and user experience. However, for YouTube to measure these signals, you need to get views on your videos which brings us to the third part of our blog post series. In our final part of how to start a YouTube channel for your business, we will discuss the step by step process of creating and running YouTube Video View ads to drive traffic to your videos to peak viewer interest and ultimately drive them to your Amazon storefront or listing for purchases.
